My name is Mike Masters, and I’ve spent years coaching, developing, and supporting rugby players across schools, clubs, and academy environments. My coaching journey began at Northampton Saints, where I worked as a Rugby Development Officer for the Cambridgeshire area. I also coached within the Northampton Saints Suffolk Foundation Phase programme. These roles shaped the way I see the game, taught me how elite systems develop young talent, and gave me a strong understanding of what players truly need to progress due to the amazing support of senior coaches and the access we are given is truly amazing.
Since then, I’ve coached across multiple age groups including Senor Mens and Womans teams and in a variety of settings and abilities from grassroots beginners to ambitious academy hopefuls. I’ve worked with state-school players, independent-school athletes, and county-level talent, helping them build better habits, improve their rugby IQ, and understand how to prepare properly for the modern game.

I started Masters Rugby Performance because I believe every player should have access to honest, detailed, professional coaching not just those who happen to be in the right school, the right environment, or the right system. Talent is everywhere, but opportunity often isn’t. My aim is to give players the tools, guidance, and clarity they need to work hard, develop well, and take their opportunities when they come.
Whether it’s technical skills, game understanding, mindset, or performance habits, I focus on coaching the details that make a real difference. My approach is simple: clear teaching, high standards, and support that actually helps players improve.
Masters Rugby Performance exists to help players become confident, capable, and prepared whatever level they want to reach.

At Masters Rugby Performance, our values are built around developing players who work hard, think clearly, and take responsibility for their growth. We focus on effort and good habits, because consistent work and the right fundamentals create long-term improvement both on and off the pitch. We teach respect for teammates, coaches, and the game, helping young people build maturity and strong character. Players learn accountability by owning their actions and standards, while teamwork and communication help them become confident, supportive members of any group. Through challenges and setbacks, we build resilience the ability to stay calm, bounce back, and keep improving. Above all, we believe opportunity is created through effort, and being coachable is key to progress in rugby, school, and life
